It's an Ear Infection, But It's Not an Ear Infection

but we're going to treat it like an ear infection. These are the words of wisdom that came from Nora's pediatrician's mouth today when Charlie took her in after our third night of being up all night trying to console our normally-angelic-sleeper of a child who just could not be comforted.

As I posted yesterday, she had shots Friday, so we just attributed the fussiness and fever to that, even though she'd never had a reaction to them before. Last night we concluded it must be something more.

She was prescribed ammoxicillin and will, hopefully, be back to her normal, cheery self tomorrow.

On a happy note, we found out yesterday that Grandpa Barnes is coming to Des Moines for Easter. Since I normally only see him once a year at Christmas, this is a welcome surprise.

Shots, Visitors, Weekend, It's Monday

That about sums up how quickly my weekend went by. Nora had her 5-month shots on Friday, so Mimi and Skyla came up to watch her the rest of the day.

This is the first time we've had side effects with shots -- Nora was feverish and cranky all weekend, all the way through last night. She has not been a pleasant bear.

We did managae to have some fun this weekend though. The girls went for a walk while I was at work Friday because it was B-E-A-U-tiful outside.
Saturday was a pretty lazy day, but Sunday we went to family yoga, which Mimi said was "interesting", but Skyla, Nora and I enjoyed :)

Love this photo Mimi snapped of Nora reading her book! Apparently, she read some shocking news!

No Today I...'s from last week -- Daddy played hookey all week, so Nora got to stay home too. Ok, Ok, he was sore from putting in our new floors -- men. Photos of the near-completed laundry room coming soon!

More Peas Please

She doesn't look so sure about the grass-green substance about to be put in her mouth, but she quickly changes her opinion once she gets a taste!

Peas are definitely better when smeared all over your face and hands.

Peas were really easy to make - they took 5 minutes tops. I bought frozen because she shouldn't have any salt and all the canned peas have salt, plus I wasn't up for shelling fresh peas. I put a half a pound in 1/4 cup boiling water. Covered and let simmer on medium heat for 3 minutes.

Then put the steamed peas and 1 1/2 ounces of milk in the magic bullet (or blender or food processor) and puree.

The leftovers I put in an ice cube tray to freeze and we will thaw them one or two at a time for her eat. If I had known she'd love them so much, I would have cooked the whole bag.

Nummy Nanners

Bananas were definitely more popular than carrots. She didn't eat much, but I think she was just tired and ready for her morning nap.

Couldn't have been any easier to make them though - peeled 1 small banana, stuck it in the magic bullet (or food processor or blender) pureed for 3 seconds. Done. I didn't mix any milk in this time, it seemed thin enough as is.

In other news, I listed TomTom on Craigslist yesterday and got 2 responses right away. One family is coming to meet him today, and hopefully take him home. For those who don't know his story, when we were living in Ames a co-worker of mine was going to take him to the shelter because she didn't want him anymore. Me being the push-over animal lover I am felt bad because he was already full grown and I was afraid he wouldn't get adopted.

So we took in Stinkface with the intention of finding him a forever home eventually. Here were are 3 years later. We have since renamed him TomTom and he has been a part of the family ever since.

He really is a good cat. He is very affectionate and needs lots of attention - which would be great if we didn't have 3 other creatures and a baby - I think he will be happier in a home where he is the center of attention.

Oh and speaking of needy creatures, Wrigley is finally going in for the big snip tomorrow! We're not sure if he just hit puberty or if he's jealous of the kid, but he has started marking his territory all over the house.

It took us a few weeks to even figure out it was him because it's very out of character for him, but he finally gave away too many clues. We thought it was one of the cats the whole time until spots started appearing on the oven, curtains and doors inches from the ground...that really narrowed down the number of possible culprits. Cross your fingers for him everything goes well.

Today I...(OK yesterday)

had a good day. I liked cuddling a pink baby doll, holding hands with my friend Olivia, and watching Miss Mary hang up shamrocks.
